If you are passionate about something, follow your heart. You will never disappoint yourself or the people you serve!

We have been to hospitals, schools, offices, law firms, media houses and many other places where we expect services and the people we expect to serve us always appear reluctant or bitter. These are the people who don’t have passion in what they do for maybe they were forced into it, or rather circumstances happened.

Most parents dictate what their children have to pursue in university, and the children therefore usually have no choice. They just have to give in to their parents demands wishes for they are the ones who pay the school fees anyways. When the children graduate from University, they happen to take the degree to their parents and start doing something else where their passion is, or they get into careers for which they studied, and end up frustrated for they don’t have passion in what they do.

It is very stressful to wake up every morning to go to work where your passion isn’t. A passionate doctor/nurse is one who ensures that his/her patients are comfortable and feel at home. This makes that patient want to come to the hospital everyday. Good hospitality increases the clientele base of every organization. Talking of the clientele base; public hospitals are always packed with patients yet the hospitality in there is terrible. It is just that not most people can afford the charges for private hospitals but if they had means, most public hospitals would be rendered irrelevant. I keep asking myself; what makes most, and especially nurses in public hospitals very hostile?
A passionate teacher/lecturer is one who ensures that he/she gives the students/pupils the best. Students can be very hard headed but a passionate teacher/lecturer never gives up on them. He embraces his/her duty of imparting knowledge in students/pupils and never relents. He/she takes their profession as a calling. Some teachers/lectures that are in it for the money just go to class because it is time and teach just for the exams. No wonder some students/pupils graduate half baked. ”An education system isn’t worth a great deal if it teaches young people how to make a living but doesn’t teach them how to make a life.”

A passionate lawyer will not just extort money from his/her clients and he/she will also not just go to court because they have a hearing. He/she will give their all to a case and whether they win or loose, their efforts will be evident. Law too is a calling and should be treated as such.

A passionate saloonist will work on that hair no matter how terrible it looks. He/she will ensure that the client leaves the salon happy and gratified. With that passion, new clients keep streaming in to the salon for they are recommended by the satisfied clients.

A passionate cook will keep on cooking no matter how many times he throws food due to lack of customers. He/she will keep on cooking great meals no matter how bad they are treated by their bosses. The salary might be meager but with the passion in the cook, the hotel’s/restaurant’s customer base keeps rising for the quality of the food never goes down.

A passionate writer will write and write and no matter how long it will take for his/her work of art to be noticed, they will keep writing. They will listen to their inner voice and not give in to the surrounding pressures. Writing needs a lot of patience too!

All in all, passion is vital in the career field. Why waste several years of your life in school pursuing something you are not passionate about? Why please other people and end up frustrated yourself? Life is short and at times we have to be mean so as to achieve our goals.

There is this quote by one Norman Vincent Peale that says, “Believe in your self. Have faith in your abilities. Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers, you cannot be successful or happy!”
