The Academic Boyfriend

Campus life is fun and guys are always advised to indulge wisely. There are those who get into campus as saints and leave as crooks, and those who get in as crooks and leave as saints. It majorly depends on your level of maturity and intelligence. Company can build or break one. Enough said.

So I am seated with my friends; two ladies and a gentleman. We have long healthy talks and the campus one streams in and it catches the attention of everyone. So probably, almost every campus chic has had a boyfriend in campus. Not weird right? Okay. The weird part is that, the boyfriends don’t know they are just “academic boyfriends.” Maybe so that you can understand the term academic boyfriend better.

So an academic boyfriend is one who signs the attendance register when their “girl” is not in class. He takes care of her cats when the girl is away on a trip with the real boyfriend or when she is washing clothes for her man in their house in Umoja. An academic boyfriend is one who knows that their girlfriend has a boyfriend who is either working somewhere or is studying in the same university but they still insist on wanting her or is it loving? Oops! Is the academic boyfriend so naïve that he stands all the maltreatment? He even carries the girlfriends’ bag to the hostel! Matters of the heart are not easy to comprehend.

Okay. So here is why the academic boyfriend faces this entire shit.

Poor vibing skills

The guys has just stepped out of high school and still has the high school crap in his head. This xaxa, pouwah nonsense sucks. Or maybe he still has much of the village in him and goes ahead to vibe the ideal campus chic. Double trouble!

A poor dresser

No chic would want to be seen in the company of a badly dressed guy unless the chic is a bad dresser herself. It reminds me of our first time boyfriends back in the days in the village. I wouldn’t wish to be taken back there!

Climbing the mountain from the top

Beauty is money. A beautiful girl invests a lot of money on herself. In fact, a beautiful girl loves everything beautiful and every beautiful thing has a price tag. If the girl doesn’t work, she gets the money from her parents or rather, a “sponsor”. So if a campus boy presents himself to the beautiful chic with his helb money, she will not hesitate to grab the chance.

So it happens that the heart chooses whom to love but in 89 percent of the situations it settles on the wrong one. Lucky are those who date in campus and actually end up being together forever. Have those babies and grow old together. Love is a journey. Pray about it and God will surely guide you throughout the journey.
