Fools
of the Day

High school is the best institution that beats
childishness from boys and girls and ushers in adulthood. I remember when I
joined Kaimosi girls I was a very timid girl that each small thing would make
me cry. Having come from a local school and now being in the same room with
girls who had come from academies made me feel so out of place. Girls from
Booker, Mudasa, Kaimosi Junior academies just to mention but a few were loud
mouths and therefore made me feel so uncomfortable. To top it up, they had this attitude that
really got to me. That a side.
Today being fools day, reminds me of how crude
senior girls were to juniors. Here is a form one class that really bends to the
orders of the senior girls. A senior girl would walk to a junior girl during
her first day in school and say...”Hallo. My name is Tit Pipette. And you are?”
The small girl would give her real name innocently and would later meet Tit
Pipette in the Chemistry lab and realize that she had been fooled. Crude! I
can’t lie that I was never fooled. In fact I think I was asked whether mum had
packed “Spince” for me and I responded innocently “no!” Spince was a name that referred to handsome
men.
So there is this fools day that a form one class got
a thorough beating for being fools. I think I was in form two by then. There is
this senior girl who entered their class and told them that they had been
summoned to the parade ground. So the junior girls ran to the parade ground and
stood waiting. The principal walked to them and inquired why they were at the
wrong place during class hours. The response they gave only earned them several
strokes of the cane to the delight of the senior girl who had fooled them. I
think they learnt their lesson and never fell prey again.
Whoever branded April first a fool’s day! I know
today several people have lost their purses mysteriously and there are those
who have fallen pray and send money innocently only to be told “Happy Fools
Day!” instead of “Thanks”. The bitter part is that the money send might have
been the fool’s last cent and they won’t get it back because it is a fool’s day
anyway. There are those who will pay rent with the money they will get or have
already gotten from fools. There are those who have opened doors to invisible
guests and those who have rushed to hospitals to visit fake patients.
I have fallen prey once or twice in the past and I
think I sent airtime last year but today I vowed not to be a fool again but I
made sure I fooled one. It is a great pleasure to fool people but the worst
feeling to be fooled. Only God knows what the Form Ones have faced today in
several High schools. I hope you have fooled somebody today. If you have been
fooled, just pick your pieces and move on. Remember fool’s day happens every
year. Cheers!
